Parla apartment

Pardis

Tehran

The central concept of Parla focuses on activating the western façade as a living, green front—an elevation that often becomes a passive and silent surface in many urban buildings. In this project, however, it is transformed into a “breathing envelope” for each floor through continuous terraces, controlled setbacks, and layered vegetation. This approach enhances the residential quality of the single-unit floors while also strengthening the building’s identity within its urban context

Form and Dual Architectural Expression

The building’s form is intentionally composed of two complementary parts—two architectural languages that together form a unified identity:

The White, Gridded Section (Formal / Urban):
A clear and orderly frame with a structured grid logic defines the building’s formal urban presence. With its vertical rhythm and carefully proportioned openings, this section presents the building as dignified, legible, and balanced at the city scale. It serves as the formal backbone of the project.

The Warm, Terrace-Oriented Section (Life / Nature):
At one corner of the building, a terrace-rich volume emerges with warmer materials and greater spatial depth. Here, balconies, glass railings, and layered greenery create a strong sense of habitation, transforming the building from a static object into a living architectural entity. Changes in light, shadow, and plant growth throughout the seasons make this section dynamic and time-responsive.

This duality simultaneously addresses two needs: formal urban clarity and warm, nature-oriented residential quality.

Plan Organization and Functional Structure (Single-Unit Floors)

With one unit per floor, the internal organization allows for higher spatial quality and clearer functional separation:

Basement: Parking, storage, and technical/service spaces, organized linearly with ramp access.

Ground Floor: A defined entrance and lobby, controlled access, and service/parking spaces, with the potential to enhance the ground level through landscaping or green open space.

Nine Residential Floors: Each floor contains a single independent unit with a clear separation between public and private zones. Living and reception areas connect directly to the western terraces, while bedrooms are located in quieter zones of the plan. The single-unit layout allows for generous spatial proportions and optimized natural light and views.

Roof: Potential for a roof garden as an extension of living space, supporting leisure, social gatherings, greenery, and light amenities.

Climatic Strategy and the “Green Western Skin”

The western terraces are a functional climatic tool, not merely a formal gesture:

  • Controlling harsh western sunlight through setbacks and natural plant shading

  • Increasing visual privacy and enhancing residential comfort

  • Creating semi-open living spaces for daily activities such as relaxation, breakfast, or work

  • Introducing nature at height and improving psychological well-being in a dense urban environment

Material Strategy and Façade Expression (Conceptual Proposal)

White Gridded Volume: Light, precise materials such as light-colored stone, GFRC, or light exposed concrete emphasize order and urban clarity.

Warm Terrace Volume: Warmer materials such as thermowood or similar panels enhance the sense of habitation and intimacy.

Glass and Dark Frames: Used to visually lighten the terraces, increase transparency, and emphasize spatial depth.

Integrated Planters and Layered Greenery: Considered as architectural elements and an essential part of the project identity.

Finally

Parla is a 2023 residential building in Pardis, designed as a basement, ground floor, and nine single-unit residential levels, offering a more independent and elevated quality of living. Through its dual architectural expression—a white gridded frame for urban clarity and a warm, terrace-oriented volume for green living—the project activates the western façade and represents a contemporary model of nature-oriented urban residential architecture
